Reminiscing Bohol...Part 3

As the title suggests, this is the 3rd installment for my "Reminiscing Bohol" posts. I know...sorry to cut Bohol into parts, but each post takes me at least 4 hours to finish (with some interruptions). Take note: At least. So please bear with me.

Btw, my first 2 posts are here and here. In case you need the quick links.

So now, let me talk about the rest of Bohol countryside...(did I hear you say "finally?" =p)

* Chocolate Hills National Monument (Carmen)
Of course, your trip will NEVER be complete if you haven't seen the jewel of Bohol! One of the world's famous natural wonders. At Sagbayan Peak, you will be able to see a "sneak peak." But if you want to have a closer look, this is just the place to do that. ;)

before getting to the top though...

Let me borrow from Po *Kung Fu Panda 2* -- "Ah, my old enemy...stairs!"

The best time to see the Chocolate hills is during summer when the hills turn chocolate brown that gave the place its name. According to Mr. Wiki
The Chocolate Hills is an unusual geological formation in Bohol province, Philippines.[1] There are at least 1,260 hills but there may be as much as 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 square kilometres (20 sq mi). They are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, hence the name.
When I was in grade school, we came across one of the legends of Chocolate Hills on one of our subjects (I think it was Filipino since I remember we were discussing about "alamat" or Filipino legends/folklore). The story was about two giants who were having a fight. They hurled rocks, boulders, and sand at each other. The fighting lasted for days, and exhausted the two giants. In their exhaustion, they forgot about their fight and became friends, but when they left they forgot to clean up the mess they had made during their battle, hence the Chocolate Hills.

At the top of the monument is a plaque with a description of the origin of Chocolate Hills, which are said to be an example of conical karst topography. Although according to Mr. Wiki, the explanation on the plaque *about the origin of Chocolate Hills* is not supported by any published scientific research. But whatever "science" may say, wouldn't you agree that this is another wonderful work of the One? :)

* Largest Python in Captivity (Alburquerque)
Meet Prony, a python believed to be the largest in captivity...To be honest, this is one of the less attractive tourist spots in Bohol for me. *no offense meant po*

I stayed away from Prony the python *i'm scared..ssshhh* and just said "hello" to other animals at the place...

* Baclayon Church. (Baclayon, Bohol)
I love old churches! I don't know why but for me they have a certain appeal. That's also one of the reasons I wanna go to Ilocos.

The Baclayon Church is one of the oldest stone churches in the Philippines that dates back to the 16th century.

Other interesting places to visit and things to do in Bohol:
  • Caving - one of the more famous caves in Bohol is the Hinagdanan Cave
  • Dolphin Watching
  • Island Hopping to Balicasag and Virgin Islands
  • Danao Eco-dventure tour
  • Butterfly Garden (Bilar)

Oh and before I forget, aside from ferries, there are also domestic flights from Manila to Tagbilaran, Bohol. ;) Hope you'll have as much fun as I did! ^_^

Sunset in Bohol after a long day touring the countryside in 2006
We were on our way to the resort and we had to stop to capture this...

And after all the holiday buzz, the love month's here! ^_^
You might want to go to a beach Bohol for a romantic getaway with your special someone.. ;)

Happy Friday!
Spread the love! (",)
